What’s a Percussion Recital Like?

on May 13, 2012

We’ve been going to percussion recitals for 7 years now, watching kids from age 6-18 perform for their parents and family and friends.  It’s more interesting and varied than you might imagine. There are marimba segments, snare drum solos, pieces on the drum set, duets, and trios. I look forward to this every year.

Though my camera battery died half-way through (really got to buy a spare), I did manage to capture two and a half songs. The first is a piece he wrote called “21,” named for the sum of the top numbers of all the various time signatures he used in the piece. He performed the duet with his percussion instructor.

The next piece is Bach’s Solfeggio in C Minor.

And the last is the one that got cut off. It’s a drum set duet Ian played with his buddy Dylan. If I get better clips from his mom, I’ll be sure to share them. Hope you enjoy!
